Abusir Pyramids from Saqqara

The pyramids of the Fifth Dynasty at Abusir are much more modest than the massive edifaces at Giza but this does not mean that the kingdom was any less wealthy or powerful. It is clear, how-ever, that wealth and power were more spread out than in earlier days. This is evident in the tombs of the court nobility and local lords who administered the country on the pharaoh’s behalf.

The tombs of selected courtiers such as Ptahshepses, the royal manicurist and hairstylist who rose to the rank of vizier during the Fifth Dynasty, are found near those of their masters.
