After four days in Aswan, we headed north to Luxor by bus, stopping at Kom Ombo, Edfu and El-Kab along the way.

Kom Ombo. Offerings to the Crocodile God, Sobek

Edfu. The Temple of Horus

Edfu was the seat of Horus, the god of the sky and of kingship. Edfu was the traditional site of the battle between Horus and Seth (representing the forces of order and chaos respectively). Although there had been an earlier temple, the existing structures date to the time of the Ptolemies in the last centuries of the first millennium BC.

Edfu. The Pylon

Edfu. Gayle at the mammisi

Edfu is undoubtedly the best-preserved of all of the major Egyptian temples and contains all of the essential elements— pylon, peristyle court, hypostyle halls and sanctuary. In front of the naos shrine of Nectanebo is a modern replica of the sacred barque used to transport the image of the god.
